Palo Santo

Common English Name: Palo santo, “Holy wood.”

Botanical Name: Bursera graveolens.

Plant Family: Burseraceae.

Method of Extraction: Steam distillation of the wood.

Origin: Mexico, countries in central America and south America.

Plant Description: An ancient, protected tree. Only the wood fallen from the tree naturally is used to produce the essential oil. The tree is considered sacred by local people.

Main Chemical Components: Limonene, menthofurane, and  alpha-terpineol.

Blends Well With: Cedarwood, cypress, frankincense, and sandalwood essential oils; carrier oils.

Uses: Calming, soothing, uplifting, meditative.

Fun Fact: Used for centuries by indigenous people as a spiritual remedy.

Cautions for Use: Do not use in pregnancy. Skin sensitivity may occur in some people.
