Say you’ve got a date Friday night, or an important presentation at work… so you try to make your hair washing schedule match up with your plans. Sometimes you have to improvise though… maybe you wash your hair a day earlier than you might usually to get that prime day-two hair. Or maybe you wait until the night before to wash your hair so when you wake up with fresh and bouncy locks…
However you make it work, or whatever it looks like to you…. a good hair day can make you feel like you can conquer the world. It’s taken me a few years to get my formula exactly right. I know what shampoo and conditioner combo make my curls look good and I know which shampoo to use when I’ve used too much dry shampoo and I’m starting to look a little oily.
At the end of the day, there are few tried and true products & tips that I always use to ensure I have a good hair day:
1. KNOW YOUR HAIR
Is your hair dry? Oily? Thin, thick, coarse, curly, colored… knowing your hair and its texture can make all the difference! For instance, what works for Chriselle’s coarse hair (add I finally know how to do my hair story) might not work for my hair. It’s like knowing your skin type. Once you figure out what your hair type is, you can get the tools you need – the perfect hairbrush or comb included! Because my hair is on the curly side, I usually avoid brushing it unless I’m about to jump in the shower to wash it.
2. START AT THE ROOTS
You should be treating your scalp like you would your skin! It all starts at the roots. No matter what your hair looks like, making sure your scalp is clean and taken care of is imperative! After a few washes, I use either a scalp scrub like this one from Christophe Robin or a Micellar Shampoo to give my scalp a little love! Micellar Shampoos are gentle and cleansing, but I find that the leave my hair a little flat which is why I use them sporadically.
3. WASH YOUR HAIR CORRECTLY
Are you even washing your hair correctly? First of all, you should definitely not be washing your hair every day as that strips your natural oils away. Shoot for 2 to 3 times a week. And when you do wash your hair, you should only be applying shampoo to your roots, not through the length of your hair and massage your scalp. When conditioning, only apply the product on the ends of your hair and not your scalp!

5. TREAT YOUR HAIR RIGHT
Next time you have a face masks night, give your hair a little love too! A hair mask is a great way to treat your hair to some extra TLC! You can use it overnight or keep it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing it out. I know it sounds tedious, but your hair will thank you! It removes build-up, nourishes and moisturizes your scalp, and helps promote your healthiest hair yet.
I’m sure there are more tips to have a great hair day every day, but these are my top five!
